Description

These uprated gaskets consist of three thin steel shims, riveted together to form a thickness of 0.052-inch. This particular gasket is custom-made by Cometic to suit 1275 engines offset bored to 73.5mm, running a BMW K1100/1200 type motorbike cylinder head.

    • Stainless steel outer layers coated for high temperature/chemical resistance 
    • PTFE topcoat for resistance to fret and improved cold sealing





It's recommended to lightly file of the edge of engine number tag location - just enough material for the gasket to sit flush.

Which A-Series engines does this gasket suit?

This steel-shim gasket is designed to suit any 1275cc engine, offset bored up to 73.5mm, that's been modified to accept a BMW motorbike cylinder head. This includes the 8-valve and 16-valve versions, k1100 and k1200.

Is this a 'dry-deck' gasket?

No, this has the original water ways open.

Are there any specific fitting procedures?

Both the head and block faces should be perfectly flat for the best seal. If the engine is being rebuilt, during machining of the block we would recommend counter-boring the main head stud threads. When installing the gasket, to avoid damage, ideally remove the head studs and place the gasket on the block, before refitting the studs. Torque the head stud nuts as per the workshop manual sequence, take the engine through a heat cycle and re-torque. The use of ARP studs will help to give an accurate torque setting.

What is the gasket thickness and capacity?

This steel shim gasket is 0.052" thick when compressed and we would allow for 5.46cc when making your compression ratio calculations.

Do you make any other twin-cam bike head conversion parts?

We did look at the conversion many years ago, but chose to focus instead on our five-port head development, and the Arden eight-port head. Many of our general parts will be compatible, but this is the only 'spare' we keep for those engines already converted.
