Our superfinished chilled iron camshaft follower sets are used in our high-end engine builds here at MED and sold to many other leading race engine builders. They're drilled to ensure better oil drainage and feature the lightweight design of our race followers. 


Each set is matched to within a gram, with the correct base radius design to allow rotation in use.


The superfinishing process results in increased durability and is the ultimate upgrade for when the race regulations allow.  


Our high quality steel pushrods are another highly recommended upgrade on a race engine build. 


 


 

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the benefit of superfinished A-Series followers?

The superfinishing process aims to increase longevity of the followers by polishing away any imperfections in the steel on a molecular level. These begin life as MED Race Cam Followers before being superfinished.

Do these cam followers suit all A-Series engines?

Arrow

Yes, and although labelled as a race item, they are well suited to road use too. These followers are lighter than the road followers, and have oil lubrication holes. We call them race followers, as they're more expensive to machine, so are typically used for higher performance engines.

My block has worn cam follower bores - do you keep over-size followers?

Unfortunately not, no. It might be worth looking for an alternative engine block, as this is likely to cause problems with the followers tipping in the bores and potentially even jamming up.

Can I use these with all A-Series camshafts?

Yes, these are suitable for all camshafts, from standard spec to race. You must always install new followers when changing the camshaft.

Is there a specific camshaft bedding-in procedure?

Engine builders and tuners will often have their own preference on bedding-in techniques. We would suggest to use 20W50 running-in oil, do not let the engine drop below 2500rpm for 30 minutes on the initial run, and vary the RPM up and down. If the car cannot be driven, keep an eye on the temperature gauge and pause the procedure as necessary. Now complete a couple of hundred miles of gentle driving before refreshing the oil and visiting a rolling road for a full tune-up.

Is there anything else to note during the engine build?

We'd suggest using a high quality engine assembly lube on the cam followers to cam, a sticky red oil that's specifically formulated to protect against corrosion. This is especially important where the engine is not due to be run straight away after completing the rebuild.
