INLINE REAR MAIN OIL SEAL CONVERSION
Description
Our 1275 engine rear oil seal conversion kit is competition proven to prevent oil leaks from the standard scroll type rear main bearing housing, for Midget/Sprite engines.
The kit is complete with two aluminium machined housings and a special split motorsport oil seal.
Modifications to the standard rear main housing are needed to fit this kit. Alternatively we can supply a complete steel main cap set including the oil seal.
Full instructions are supplied and can also be downloaded from the additional information tab.
Please note - this will not suit 1098 crankshafts, even with two-inch mains, only the 1275.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which A-Series engines is this kit designed for?
This oil seal conversion is exclusively for the 1275 inline crankshaft, as fitted to MG Midgets and AH Sprites. It will not suit Minis or small-bore inline engines.
Can I fit this myself at home?
Potentially, but to give the best possible results we would suggest taking your engine block and rear main cap to an engineering shop for them to perform the job. We have included the technical drawing and instructions above as a PDF.
What size thread do the fixings have?
The small cap head screws that fit the 'horse shoe' to the main cap are M4x0.7, and the larger screws for the triangular plate are 1/4" UNF.
Can this be fitted in situ?
No, as the sump pan will need to be removed, then the rear main cap. The flywheel and gearbox will also hinder access, so the engine will ideally need to be removed from the car to remove the main cap.
Do I need to use any sealant on the seal?
We'd recommend RTV silicone sealer, used very sparingly around the seal. Excess sealer is likely to be ingested by the engine or block the oil feed pipe, so only use the bare minimum.
