PRE-VERTO CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING
Description
Replacement clutch release bearing to suit the earlier diaphragm-type clutch setup (pre-Verto). These fit on the standard clutch arm plunger or the MED Heavy-Duty Clutch Arm kit.
We would recommend changing this bearing at the same time as installing a new flywheel assembly, while it's all removed from the car.
For the later type, see: Verto Clutch Release Bearing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is this bearing used?
This is the release bearing for the original style 'pre-Verto' classic Mini clutch setup. It presses on to the clutch arm plunger that sits inside the clutch housing, also known as the 'wok', on the starter motor side of the engine.
Will it fit all classic Minis?
Production moved to the Verto clutch assembly in the early 1980s, and these cars used a different style release bearing (available in the Verto category). This will suit all Minis with the earlier clutch setup, and those retro-converted, easily identifiable by the long clutch arm.
How does it fit?
The bearing is a press-fit to the clutch arm plunger. We use a hydraulic press to do this, but if you're careful, a large bench vice will do a similar DIY job at home. Obviously be careful to press only on the inner bearing race.
Is this an uprated bearing?
No it's a standard replacement bearing, Rover part number GRB201. We find these give excellent longevity - even for full race usage. Alternative heavy duty bearings are available, but we prefer these, and at this price point, these are very good value.
Will this fit cars other than a classic Mini?
Quite possibly, but we do not advise it, or list the dimensions, as we do not know for sure and would sooner not supply these for alternative applications.
