REPLACEMENT BOLT SET - MED STEEL CONRODS
Description
ARP replacement 5/16" rod bolt sets for use with the full range of MED steel conrods. Replacement is usually recommended when rebuilding a high-power competition engine.
These should be torqued to 30lb.ft, or preferably checked using an ARP rod bolt stretch gauge and stretched to 0.0050"-0.0055". You will need a 12-point 9mm socket/spanner.
Frequently Asked Questions
What torque settings should I use?
5/16" fixings should be torqued to 30lb.ft, or preferably checked using an ARP rod bolt stretch gauge and stretched to 0.0050"-0.0055".
What is the material spec?
These bolts are machined from ARP2000, an alloy steel with a tensile strength of 220,000 PSI. ARP2000 is used widely in motorsport applications. Stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement are typically not a problem, providing care is taken during installation.
Can the bolts be re-used?
If they have been installed and torqued correctly, and show no visible signs of damage, then yes they can be re-used. However if they show any signs of thread galling or corrosion, or have stretched by 0.001" or more, you should replace them. Typically, race engine builders will install new conrod bolts during each rebuild for peace of mind.
Will these fit other steel conrods?
Possibly, but we would only recommend them for use with MED/Arrow steel conrods, as we know for sure that this is the correct fitment.
What size spanner or socket is required?
You will need a 12-point 9mm socket/spanner. This size has been chosen for the lightest weight possible, saving 2 grams per bolt compared with the previous design!
