ADJUSTABLE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
Description
This 1/8-inch NPT oil pressure switch can be adjusted from 15 to 150psi using the grub screw on the end, to illuminate an oil pressure warning lamp far earlier than the standard switch.
Often by the time the standard oil pressure lamp switches on, the damage has been done.
Feed one terminal via the oil pressure light to a fused ignition live, the other to earth. This varies to the standard switch, which is earthed through the engine block itself - the advantage here being that you can mount this switch remotely out of the way via a braided line.
We would recommend wrapping the thread with PTFE tape upon fitment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you wire up an adjustable oil pressure switch?
The standard A-Series oil pressure switch earths through the engine block, so there is just one live 12-volt connection from the oil pressure lamp. This switch does not earth through the block, so you will need to run a separate earth lead back to a suitable earth point on the car/engine.
Where does the oil pressure switch fit?
The 1/8" NPT male thread will screw straight into the oil pressure location on the A-Series block, close to the oil pipe fitting that connects to the oil filter head. Alternatively this can be installed to one of our brass T-pieces to allow you to install both a switch for the lamp and a sender for a gauge. Even better, install a length of braided oil line from the block to the T-piece, and mount these remotely, away from the engine to reduce vibration.
What is the torque setting?
This oil pressure switch has a tapered fitting, so wrap the thread in PTFE tape and lightly nip it up with a spanner until it seals. It is machined from brass, so be very careful not to over-tighten.
How do I set it up?
We would suggest installing a T-piece, as above, plus a separate oil pressure gauge, which will allow you to check the current oil pressure and set the light accordingly. The screw in the end will adjust the pressure at which the switch earths and turns on the warning lamp.
