Frequently Asked Questions
Do you keep rings for standard A-Series pistons?

Sorry, no - only our range of Omega aftermarket performance pistons. Some other aftermarket pistons may use a similar ring pack, but please check the dimensions above carefully to cross-reference, as we only know the fitment of Omega pistons for sure.
Is there a recommended bore finish?

Yes, we suggest plateau honing with a cross hatch angle of 35-40 degrees. After honing with either conventional (#220 - #280 grit) or diamond stone (#325 - #550 grit), finish by smoothing the surface with a fine-grit conventional abrasive (#400 - #600 grit) or sweep the bores with a flexible brush or a nylon bristle plateau honing tool. This is necessary to get rid of jagged peaks and folded and torn material. Your machine shop may have different preferences.
I have an old set of 74mm Omega pistons - can you supply rings?

Unfortunately not, as the 74mm pistons fell out of favour some 20+ years ago, and we can no longer source the rings.
I've broken one ring on assembly - do you keep individual spares?

Sometimes, yes. Let us know which one you're looking for and we can check. If we have spares it may be possible to supply one piston pack of rings rather than a full set, but we cannot promise we will always be able to do this.
I've ordered replacement rings for my forged 18cc Omega pistons, and you've sent me the diecast type. Is this right?

Yes, the forged big dish pistons run the same piston ring pack as the Omega diecast pistons. The other exception is with pre-2005 forged Omega pistons, which also used the diecast rings. To double check which pistons you have, if the gudgeon pins are 18mm in diameter, you will have the later lightweight design and need the 'forged' ring pack.
I've installed a new set of piston rings and my engine still smokes - what's wrong?

If it's smoking on acceleration rather than the over-run, it could be that the engine has not been run-in properly, or potentially the bores are worn. A new set of piston rings will not fix an over-sized cylinder, so make sure to have your block measured and checked during a rebuild.
Do I need to check the piston ring gap?

Yes, we would aim for 0.010-0.012" gap on the top and second rings.
