AFS STEEL MAIN STUD SETS
Description
Our AFS 'Advanced Fixing System' high tensile main bearing stud kit comes complete with a set of special waisted and centred studs for use with our four-bolt steel main bearing cap set.
Also included are our new forged 'AFS' multi point nuts and assembly lube to compliment the kit. Torque to 65lb/ft.
Kit options:
- 1275 full set, eight studs and nuts
- 1275 four-bolt main only, set of four studs and nuts
Please note that these are not suitable for use with standard main caps, only the MED steel caps.
The main cap fixing holes in the block may need to be deepened to ensure that the studs do not protrude from the top of the nut, or this will foul on the gearbox casing. Please contact us if you're unsure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will MED main cap studs fit with standard Mini main caps?
Unfortunately not, no, as the gearbox housing will foul on the nuts, where the platforms sit higher than with the MED steel main caps. If you're retaining the standard main caps we would suggest a set of new replacement standard bolts, and upgrade the centre cap with an MED centre main strap kit.
Which way round do they fit?
We regularly see these installed upside-down. The 'blind' unthreaded section should sit down into the block, to locate the stud in the hole.
Do I need to machine the block to install these studs?
You may need to drill and tap the main cap threads deeper, depending on the block and how it was machined by the factory. Careful measuring here will allow you to sit the studs at an even height across the block. The four-bolt centre main conversion will require two extra threads in the block.
What's the torque setting?
Install the studs hand tight and torque the nuts to 65lb.ft.
Which kit do I need?
If you're planning to install a complete set of MED steel main caps to a 1275 engine, choose the full kit. If it's just the centre main being upgraded, select four-bolt only.
